La Quebrada & Cliff Divers

Probably Acapulco's most enduring symbol, La Quebrada and it's world renown cliff divers are a must see attractions for tourists visiting Acapulco. The highest of the dives (and most impressive) are performed from a height of 130 feet (40 m.) and must be perfectly timed with the incoming surge of surf to hit the sliver of water and avoid the rocks below.

Cliff Divers Acapulco

Cliff Divers of Acapulco

Probably Acapulco's most enduring symbol, La Quebrada and it's world renown cliff divers are a must see attractions for tourists visiting Acapulco. The highest of the dives (and most impressive) are performed from a height of 130 feet (40 m.) and must be perfectly timed with the incoming surge of surf to hit the sliver of water and avoid the rocks below. There's a good reason for them to pray at the shrine on top before jumping, at high tide the water below is only 12 feet deep!

You can watch the cliff divers up close by paying a small fee and descending the stairs of the nearby mirador or for considerably more you can watch them from the comfort of the La Perla restaurant (and you can even meet them before they dive - and tip them of course). You can also take a boat tour and witness a daytime jump from the water below, but the night performances are by far the best.

The cliff divers perform at: 12:45, 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30, but these times are subject to seasonal changes and arriving early is recommended.

La Quebrada

La Quebrada is the name of the area where the cliff divers perform which is an interesting and beautiful area in its own right. The location is walking distance from the zocalo, but if you are in the hotel zone, you will need to take a taxi. The area is a favorite spot of Mexican to come and admire the sea. The city government recently installed a very nice pedestrian walkway starting at La Quebrada that winds along the cliffs past Playa La Angosta until stopping once you hit the residential areas of Las Playas.
