Zhen Shanghai Restaurant
The original Zhen is in Shanghai. Mexico City’s version is a gourmet treatment of traditional Chinese cuisine. Like most good Chinese restaurants, the tables are round, with a lazy Susan in the middle so that everyone can have easy access to the dishes. The décor is striking and modern. This restaurant creates an elegant, oriental atmosphere with soft lighting, subtle Eastern instrumental music in the background, and comfortable, leather furniture. Appetizers that should not be missed include the Dim Sum plates – shrimp in wonton pastry or spring rolls. Hot and sour soup, always a favorite, is served in a shark fin version. Those who like Chinese-style ribs will find none better. Fish lovers can even have their Huachinango stir fried with vegetables or as a filet in sweet and sour sauce. Beef spirals filled with shitake mushrooms and honey sauce is another favorite. And in a case of doubt, there is always Peking Duck, a house specialty, said to be the best in town, prepared over 24 hours according to a one thousand year-old recipe brought to the restaurant by executive chef Ip Su Lam.
The Zhen Shanghai is located inside the Hotel Presidente Intercontinental. Major credit cards are accepted. Valet parking is available. Dress is considered to be “business casual.” Private dining areas are available for groups up to 25.
